The Homesite Renters Express® product was developed to streamline the application process for basic renters insurance. Renters Express® is different from our standard renters insurance product in that it is designed particularly for those customers that reside in larger apartment complexes and have basic coverage needs. Renters Express® is available to applicants who:
- live in apartment complexes of four units or more
- require personal property coverage of $35,000 or less
- do not require special endorsements or coverages.
The Renters Express® is a basic insurance policy for customers who neither need nor desire additional coverages. (See our Renters Product Comparison for more information) This program will work in tandem with our Standard Renters product to provide greater coverage and premium options to customers. Homesite plans to introduce the Renters Express product throughout the country where we write business. If the program is available in your state, you will be asked a series of questions during the initial quoting process that will determine which product is available based on your insurance coverage needs.
Understanding the Product Differences
It is important to point out that there are some important differences between our Standard Renters and Renter's Express® product. For a full list of the coverages and options, please review the Renters Product Comparison.
- While the Standard Renters product offers many additional coverages (for example, debris removal, and coverage for trees, shrubs and other plants) the Renters Express® policy only offers coverage for reasonable and necessary repairs made to protect the customers personal property from further loss. Since this product is marketed towards renters in large complexes, the additional coverages are not generally needed.
- Renters Express® removes many of the sub-limit restrictions contained in a Standard Renters policy. Televisions, stereo equipment, radios, computers, personal electronics, and other items are covered up to the policy limits.
- The Renters Express® product includes Personal Property Replacement Cost on every policy.
- The Renters Express® product is a named peril policy and insures against: fire or lightning (including smoke); windstorm or hail; burglary; and accidental discharge or overflow of water or steam.
- Burglary is included in the Renters Express® policy. Burglary is defined as a loss of personal property resulting from a breaking and entering.
- Theft is an optional coverage that can be added to a Renters Express® policy for an additional charge. Theft is defined as the unlawful taking or removing of personal property, including mysterious disappearance and loss from a known place when it is likely that the property has been stolen.
